(AINA) -- The Ishtar Gate, currently housed at the Pergamon Museum in Germany, was a monumental gate to the inner city of ancient Babylon. It was built circa 575 BC by King Nebuchadnezzar II and was dedicated to the goddess Ishtar. The gate is famous for its bright blue glazed bricks and its symbolic animal designs.

The Ishtar Gate represents an important part of ancient Assyrian and Mesopotamian history. It shows the advanced art, architecture, and cultural beliefs of that time. The animals on the gate -- lions, bulls, and dragons -- were symbols of power, protection, and gods in ancient culture.

Ramzy Hormes, an Assyrian in America, has built a model of the Ishtar Gate using LEGO blocks. Mr. Hormes seeks to have the LEGO Corporation manufacture and sell the model.

The model uses approximately 3,404 LEGO bricks. Blue bricks were chosen to represent the original glazed blue surface. The animals on the gate are not built from LEGO bricks; instead, they are printed stickers that show the traditional animal designs found on the original Ishtar Gate.

According to Mr. Hormes, if the LEGO Corporation gets 10,000 signatures it will manufacture and sell the Ishtar LEGO model at its own expense.

"My goal is to inspire younger generations to become interested in history by using LEGO and creative building as a learning tool. I hope to continue creating more LEGO models of historical cultures to help teach history in a fun and meaningful way."
