Assyrian Villages in Khabour, Syria Occupied By Kurdish YPG-militia
Bookmark and Share

In february 2015 the Assyrian Khabour area was attacked by the Islamic State (IS) terrorists. The IS attack was a reply to a deliberate provocation from the kurdish YPG militia. The 35 Assyrian villages located along the Khabour river were emptied after the attack. A couple of days later the IS kidnapped and held hundreds of assyrians hostages. The empty villages fell into controll of the Kurdish YPG militia, and they were systematically looted by Kurdish groups. In recent days the YPG militia has put up varning signs in different places in the villages with the content; dangerous and mined area. This is just a trick by YPG to scare assyrians and to justify their occupation. Tel Nasri and Tel Goran are the villages that have been occupied with the expectation that YPG is only there temporary for training. The most affected village is Abutina, where Assyrian homes have been destroyed by bombs and powerful explosions after the YPG militia training. The so called training camp which the YPG militia started has now been going on for more than one year. The result from this is that more YPG units from Aleppo area moved out to the Assyrian villages in Khabour under the excuse that they are guarding the Assyrian homes. In Arabic there is a proverb saying "Hamiha Haramiha" its protector is its thief.
