A compelling documentary argues that today's Christian churches ignore the suffering of Christians in the Middle East much as German Christians overlooked the Nazi persecution of Jews during World War II. "The churches in Germany [were] singing louder through their choirs to drown out the cries of the Jews being taken to death camps in trains passing by their churches," Juliana Taimoorazy said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV. "We're linking that to today's singing louder in churches [to drown] out the cries of the Assyrian Christians in the East." Taimoorazy -- founder of the Iraqi Christian Relief Council, which raises funds to deliver food and medicine to Iraqi Christians -- is an Assyrian Christian who fled Iran in 1989 because of religious persecution. She hopes to begin showing her documentary "Sing a Little Louder" in churches and community centers across the country. "We're ready to take it on the road ... and something very exciting for this movie is that we've had the honor of Congressman Frank Wolf endorsing this movie," she said. "I strongly believe that we as Christians have become complacent in our own faith ... We are cultural Christians rather than really staying true to the essence of Christianity as a religion. "We want to become more and more politically correct, not offending Muslims -- even extremist Muslims -- who are thirsty for Christian blood." Taimoorazy said her organization has been very busy over the past six months as the Islamic State (ISIS) steps up its slaughter of Christians in the Middle East. "But the persecution has been going on for centuries, and now you see the images of faces of saints being defaced, the churches being destroyed, our clergy being killed, our women are being sold into sex slavery," she said. "It is really embarrassing for the church -- [with] pastors standing at the pulpit preaching the Gospel and yet failing to stand with the suffering body of Christ in the East." The ongoing suffering of Christians is also hitting home for some of Taimoorazy's staffers. One board member got word last week that her cousins had been abducted from the village of Tel Shamiram by ISIS. Two male relatives were killed.
