(AINA) -- A new documentary about the Assyrian refugees in Iraq has won the Staff Picks award at the internationally renowned video-sharing platform, Vimeo. The film is called The Last Plight. It shows a glimpse into the tragic lives of hundreds of the thousands Assyrians, Yezidies, and other minorities after ISIS attacks in Iraq.

The 10 minute film has been screened at the European Parliament and Harvard University to make the strongest impact. Screening at other world parliaments are being organized.

The film was made by Sargon Saadi, a 26 year-old Assyrian cinematographer based in Los Angeles. Saadi traveled to Iraq in September, 2014 to document the humanitarian crisis. Saadi spent 8 days in northern Iraq with the two film producers, Sargon Rouel, and Suzan Younan, to capture as many stories as possible.

The goal of the film is to raise awareness internationally about the genocide against the minorities in Iraq, especially the Christians Assyrians (also Known as Chaldeans and Syriacs). The film advocates for a Safe Haven and international protection for Assyrians in the Nineveh Plains of north Iraq.

A full version of this documentary is being made and is slated to be completed in January 2015.
