Ealing, England -- Delicious Middle-Eastern food will be sold at this year's Assyrian Food Festival and Bazaar, raising money for displaced people of Iraq. Following on from the success of last year's event, people can eat in or take away a variety of dishes at the Assyrian House in Temple Road, South Ealing, on Saturday (October 11) from 11am-4pm. There will also be a raffle, which includes a prize of a dinner for two at La Rueda tapas restaurant in Ealing Broadway, fun games and a kids zone with face painting. New and nearly new clothing donated by members of the community will be on offer and money raised will go towards helping displaced Assyrians in Iraq who have been forced to flee their homes or face death. Mardean Isaac, from A Demand For Action, an initiative working in 15 countries for the protection of Assyrian Christians and other minorities in the Middle East, said: "Around 200,000 Assyrians have been removed from their villages and towns by IS. They were not allowed to take any of their belongings with them; they were even robbed of phones, rings, and money. "Churches have been destroyed, literature burnt, and monasteries desecrated. All 45 Christian buildings in Mosul have now been destroyed or converted to a mosque. The Assyrians and other ethnic minorities in Iraq are undergoing a horrific and shocking ordeal at the hands of IS." The Assyrians are people indigenous to a continuous region comprising south-east Turkey, northern Iraq, north-west Iran, and north-east Syria. There are about 7,000 Assyrians in London, including a large number in Ealing.
