Stockholm (AINA) -- The Swedish Social democratic party, Socialdemokraterna, confirmed last week Mr. Ibrahim Baylan as their new party secretary. The 36 year old Assyrian came to Sweden at the age of 10 from Turkey's south eastern Assyrian region known as Turabdin. Baylan made history in 2004 when he became the first foreign-born school minister in Sweden. His party, the social democrats, lost in the last national elections to a coalition of center and right parties but remains the single largest party in Sweden according to opinion polls.
