Assyrian Describes ISIS Takeover of His City in North Iraq
Bookmark and Share

(AINA) -- A video recorded by the World Council of Churches shows an Assyria man telling of his flight from his village as ISIS swept into the Nineveh Plain, north of Mosul. The man identifies himself as Ayad, from the town of Tel Kepe, north of Mosul. The interview was conducted on August 30 in Dohuk (Assyrian Noohadra), where Ayad had arrived. Ayad says he was betrayed by his Muslim close friend and neighbor of 16 years, and expressed concern for the five Assyrian families remaining in Tel Kepe.

Ayad said the Arab residents of Tel Kepe took over the village at 9 PM, and then ISIS entered at 10:30 PM. He says when the Arab residents took over the city they put black ribbons around their heads and started shouting slogans in support of ISIS. ISIS entered with only four cars and headed directly to the church and removed the cross and destroyed it, then put the black ISIS flag on top of the church.
