(AINA) -- The Assyrian Genocide Research Center (Seyfo) has accepted an invitation to join the Alliance of Historical Dialogue and Accountability (AHDA) initiative, based at Columbia University's Institute for the Study of Human Rights in New York. According to the Institute,

AHDA represents an innovative interdisciplinary global network of scholars and practitioners whose interest in historical dialogue and accountability highlights the role of history in reconciliation and peace-building. Facilitating the exchange of advocacy and academic insights across disciplines and geographical regions, AHDA connects organizations which explore the deep-rooted causes of conflicts, produce knowledge about past human rights violations, and examine how memories of that past have an impact on current reconciliation efforts.

"I am very glad that Seyfo Center has been invited to the Alliance of Historical Dialogue and Accountability (AHDA) at Columbia University," says Sabri Atman, Founder and director of Seyfo Center. "Our Center strives for the highest academic standard and international collaboration. Columbia University's initiative is an example of this."

According to Noray Betbaba, the president of the U.S. chapter of Seyfo Center, "Our participation in AHDA will focus attention on Seyfo Center, and more importantly Assyrians, in the United States and the world. Seyfo Center will be an affiliate of AHDA, which is supervised by Columbia University, and which is working to safeguard human rights and teach the history of genocide to the next generation."
