Fairfield, Australia -- The Assyrian Diqlat School, a community language school based at Fairvale High School, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Principal Carmen Lazar, who is also the manager of the Assyrian Resource Centre, said she was proud to have celebrated 40 years of keeping the Assyrian language alive among community members.
"(I am proud of) the continuous hard work, dedication and achievements of the Assyrian language in Australia," Ms Lazar said.
A community event was held at St Johns Park High School and included entertainment, live performances and recognition of achievements.
"The Assyrian Diqlat school has been delivering professional expertise to the community for forty years," Ms Lazar said.
The school has also begun teaching Aramaic -- the language of Jesus, she said.
"Teachers have rejuvenated the modern day studies of the ancient Assyrian language."
